Read the full game description

The Lord of the Rings is Reiner Knizia’s landmark cooperative design, asking a fellowship of hobbits to survive the trilogy together. After events on the main board, the group confronts Moria, Helm’s Deep, Shelob’s Lair, and Mordor on dedicated conflict boards. Players contribute cards bearing friendship, hiding, travel, and fighting symbols to advance several parallel tracks; choosing which path to pursue—and when to accept a harmful event—creates the game’s central tension. Shield tokens buy vital resources, special cards reward coordination, and every failure can push a hobbit closer to Sauron on the corruption track. A player may fall while the fellowship continues, but if the Ring-bearer is caught, all are lost. Victory requires reaching Mount Doom and completing the final attempt to destroy the Ring.
