How it plays

How does it play?

Hunt or hide across Manhattan as shifting gaslights, parks, construction sites, and a departing steamship reshape an exacting two-player deduction duel.

Core mechanisms

Key systems that shape the decisions players make.

Read the full game description

Mr. Jack in New York transports the asymmetric deduction system to Manhattan and gives both players a richer, more changeable city to manipulate. One player is the Investigator, trying to identify and arrest the criminal hidden among eight characters. The other is Jack, secretly impersonating one of them and attempting to escape or survive eight rounds. At the start of each round, four character cards determine which figures may act; the players alternate choosing them, so every ability can help one side while denying the other. After all four have moved, Jack declares whether the hidden identity is visible or invisible according to adjacency, gaslight, and location rules. That single piece of evidence clears suspects and tightens the search. New York adds parks, construction sites, street exits, a police informant, and a steamship that can carry characters around Manhattan. Characters can shift terrain, open routes, move the ship, or alter visibility, making the board itself part of the deduction. The Investigator must create reliable tests without accidentally opening an escape path; Jack must preserve ambiguity while positioning for a legal exit. Each thirty-minute game is a compact duel of inference, tempo, bluffing, and spatial control.
