Islebound gives each player a ship and a small capital in a lively archipelago. On a turn, the ship sails between island towns, spending movement as it crosses sea routes. Towns offer actions that collect wood, fish, books, and coins; hire crew; commission buildings; or improve the capital. A player may also take control of a town, either by paying influence and befriending it or by attacking with pirates, crew strength, and rolled dice. Controlled towns can be exhausted for their action from anywhere, turning exploration into a growing personal network. Pirates and sea serpents make military routes risky, while reputation and event cards reward a more peaceful captain. New buildings add scoring paths and efficient actions, so one player might develop a scholarly harbor while another commands an aggressive fleet. The game ends after a threshold of buildings or towns is reached, and wealth from coins, reputation, owned towns, buildings, and bonuses determines the winner. Its broad map and multiple routes make Islebound a sandbox of movement, engine building, and opportunistic control.
