Read the full game description

The Hare & the Tortoise is a card-driven family race built around secret bets and five wonderfully asymmetric animals. At the start, each player backs two racers without revealing them. On a turn, a player adds one to four cards of a single animal to the shared display. A racing round begins when eight cards are showing or four cards of one animal have appeared, then every animal moves according to its own rule. The steady tortoise advances whenever it has support. The hare is fast but may nap when it is too far ahead. The fox rewards the exact number of cards played, the lamb likes abundance but stops to drink at streams, and the wolf can howl to disrupt the field. Because everyone contributes to the same race, each card might help a secret favorite, bait an opponent, or push an unwanted leader into a bad condition. When three animals reach the podium, players score their hidden bets according to finishing position. The result is quick enough for children but full of bluffing, timing, and table-reading for adults.
